Comment: Species include channel catfish, flathead catfish, spotted bass, some largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, sauger and a few walleye, white bass, hybrid stripers, and a few musky. Main cover for fish would be logjams. River gets muddy easily and access is limited. Good boat launch at the mouth in the town of Guyandotte and good canoe access upstream at Salt Rock and Branchland. There are more access areas below R D Bailey Dam but I'm not familiar with them. It is not the most scenic river you will find but the fishing can be great when water clarity is good.
